ABOUT THIS SUMMIT

We gathered live & online on April 22nd, 2023 for our One-Day Summit to deepen our somatic healing journey around the theme “Embodied Conflict Resolution & Non-Violent Communication.”

Conflict is an unavoidable part of the human experience. Yet as David Weinstock describes, “there is harmony to be found at the centre of every conflict.” In this one-day summit we will explore somatic-based practices to find common-ground and power in every conflict situation and turn difficult interactions into opportunities for connection and empathy.

This full-day event is designed to equip you with the tools and techniques necessary to move through conflicts and disagreements with grace and understanding. You will discover practical techniques and strategies to help you navigate difficult conversations with confidence and compassion. We'll explore how to cultivate self-awareness, how to soften in to self-compassion, and the power of healthy boundaries.

Join us and learn the power of somatics to navigate conflict and repair relationships with confidence and compassion.

This summit’s world-leading embodiment experts include Tim Hicks, Ron De Brito, Stephen Kotev, Kai Cheng Thom and David Weinstock.

In The Fertile Soils of Conflict, We Can Create Compassion, Gentleness and Love

A 75-MINUTE EXPERIENTIAL SESSION

The pains we experience and hold inside us, show up in behaviours which tend to stimulate pain in ourselves and people around us. Conflict can be the tension between the self who’s trying to protect from the pain and the same self who’s longing to stay in connection, valued, appreciated and loved.

Through the groundedness and spaciousness of our embodied awareness, using the language of Nonviolent Communication, we can truly soften into self-compassion for the needs we long to meet. We shall embrace grief for our unmet needs and gratitude for the body that opens to receive the world’s resources.

Stephen Kotev

Boundaries: An Unappreciated Antidote to Conflict

A 75 MINUTE EXPERIENTIAL SESSION

Much can be said for acceptance and yielding, what is often unacknowledged is the value of our own boundaries. Clear boundaries nourish healthy self-esteem and build resilience. Join veteran conflict resolver, leadership coach and embodiment educator, Stephen Kotev, for this interactive and experiential session on how healthy boundaries can fortify our conflict competence.

Kai Cheng Thom

Loving Justice: An Essential Skillset for Conflict Transformation

A 75-MINUTE EXPERIENTIAL SESSION

In a time marked by global strife, political polarization, and identity-based conflict, new models for conflict transformation and relationship repair are needed more badly than ever. Join Qualified Mediator and Somatic Coach Kai Cheng Thom as she presents her Loving Justice model, an emergent strategy for healing relationships and crises of the soul. Rooted in Transformative Justice thinking and developed in direct conversation with spiritual practice and social movements, Loving Justice is a model based not only theory, but the fundamental metaskills ("how to be") and microskills ("what to do") needed to address conflict with both strength and compassion. Participants will leave with highly practical set of tools for thinking, talking about, and working through complex relationship issues.

Harmonizing our Inner Conflicts: Somatic Consensus and Practices for Embodying Nonviolent Communication

A 75-MINUTE EXPERIENTIAL SESSION

There is harmony to be found in the center of every conflict and power that is undeniably felt that leaves little to resist when words and actions arise from our common ground. Finding your voice is both literal and metaphorical for self-expression that is honest, empathic, powerful, and compassionate. David Weinstock will share a physical, emotional, linguistic, and energetic practice that helps transform old habits and reactions into resources for self-healing, relationship building, and finding your voice in the world.

Coherence between what we say, feel, intuit, and do occurs when what we practice is inspired by meaning that is deeply felt. Coming home to our bodies puts us in touch with our emotions, and our emotions—when consciously listened to—tell us what matters, what we need, and the present, direct, immediate experience of the life we are living.

This is where we can access discriminating wisdom, where we feel the suffering and grief that give birth to compassion, and where we can regain our footing again and again as we walk into the mystery of life, relationships and the nurturing of community. Come and enjoy a training that can add considerable energy to life, relationships, and work. Build coherence between the words you use and what you communicate nonverbally. Somatic physical and emotional practices that strengthen your inner awareness. Turn historical reactions into resources for connection and healing.

Understanding How People Work Helps us Work Well with People: The Neural Basis of Conflict and Communication

A 75 MINUTE EXPERIENTIAL SESSION

Conflicts are based on many factors of context and experience including what we know, what we think we know, what we believe, what we understand, and our perceptions of each other and the world. What we know is intimately tied to our identity. The experiences of knowing and identity are embodied in the neural structures and activations of the body’s nervous system. It is a truism of the conflict resolution field that understanding the source of a conflict is an important step in resolving a conflict. In this session, we will look at the sources or roots of conflict in the neural characteristics of knowing and identity, giving us a better understanding of why conflicts happen, why they are often difficult to prevent or resolve, how misunderstandings happen, the difficulties of communication, and the nature of many perceptual biases (confirmation bias, implicit bias, naive realism, stereotyping, projections, ingroup/outgroup behavior, etc.).
