ABOUT THE SUMMIT

We gathered live & online Sunday, February 18th, 2024 to discover the transformative power of Somatics and Psychedelics in Trauma Healing.

Explore the art and science of healing and growth available through a unified and holistics approach to Somatics and Psychedelic-Assisted-Therapies at our FREE One-Day Summit “Somatics and Psychedelics in Trauma Healing”.

Discover how somatic techniques like breathwork and body awareness enhance all stages of the healing journey including integration after intense psychedelic experiences. This unified approach fosters a profound connection between mind and body, aiding in trauma processing and promoting enduring healing.

Together we’ll explore trauma-informed approaches, ethical considerations, and the cultivation of relational therapeutic presence—skills foundational to the dynamic and sensitive nature of psychedelic therapy.

Our world-leading embodiment experts dedicated to advancing the use of psychedelics in mental health treatment will help you embark on this transformative journey towards holistic well-being and healing for yourself and others.

Atira Tan

Navigating Complex Trauma with the Trauma-Informed Plant Medicine Paradigm

A 75-MINUTE EXPERIENTIAL SESSION

Trauma exists on a continuum. There are many different types of traumatic experiences in the western world. From perinatal trauma to attachment trauma, sexual abuse to developmental trauma, and high-velocity accidents to medical procedures, trauma comes in many forms.

Each of these traumatic experiences requires a unique antidote for recovery in psychedelic journey, from preparation, facilitation and integration; there is no universal cure. There are trauma classifications, such as C-PTSD or Complex Trauma, where the recovery and psychedelic healing space must be held with impeccable therapeutic presence, alongside an in-depth understanding of neurobiology, the science of trauma resolution and relational care

Without these skills, psychedelic facilitators may cause more harm than good. In this workshop, you'll learn:

  • Why being trauma-informed in plant medicine facilitation is essential to create safety for every body.

  • The importance of preparation and integration in the recovery of C-PTSD and Complex Trauma.

  • 3 important trauma-informed tips for complex trauma clients.

  • Working with the body's intelligence in non-ordinary states.

Dr. Manesh Girn

The Neuroscience of Somatic Psychedelic Therapy: Neuroplasticity and the Brain-Body Connection

A 75 MINUTE EXPERIENTIAL SESSION

In this talk, Dr. Manesh Girn will provide an accessible tour of the fascinating emerging research on the (neuro)science of trauma, interoception, and nervous system regulation, with a focus on how it relates to leading neuro-psychological models of how psychedelics work. Psychedelics can be transformative change agents: catalyzing neuroplasticity and the exploration of new brain states, thereby helping us break out of maladaptive patterns. These effects then have ripple effects throughout the entire human organism, owing to the deep unity between the mind/brain and the body. However, this is only beginning to be researched. Join Dr. Manesh Girn in this exploration of the frontier of our current understanding of this incredibly important topic.

Dr. Devon Christie

Somatic Psychedelic Facilitation: Cultivating Embodied Wholeness and Connection

A 75-MINUTE EXPERIENTIAL SESSION

Devon will introduce a framework for the application of Somatic Psychedelic Facilitation. This includes an exploration of the underlying assumptions that inform this approach, which challenge dominant norms in modern healthcare. She will also address important orientations crucial for the relationship-centered approach at the heart of somatic psychedelic work. Devon will delve into Five Invitations offered to clients, fostering a collaborative partnership throughout the process. Additionally, she will discuss how employing a method of embodied inquiry enables facilitation across the arc of preparation, medicine sessions, and integration, by attuning to clients' present-moment lived experiences. Her presentation will complement that of Dr. Manesh Girn, with whom she has been collaborating to articulate a scientific rationale for this approach.

Públio Valle

Safety, Aversion and the Window of Tolerance: Learning to be With Discomfort

A 75-MINUTE EXPERIENTIAL SESSION

Losing the sense of safety is usually at the root of virtually all traumas, and this in consequence brings a discomfort that we, in a conscious or unconscious way, repeatedly try to push away. It is quite common that a psychedelic journey takes us to experience inner spaces of fear, discomfort and agitation. These experiences often challenge us to find again a sense of safety that somehow was lost within ourselves.

In this session we will understand better what is meant by "Window of Tolerance", the role of aversion, and the importance of learning how to be with discomfort.

Chara Caruthers

Readying the Healing Ground: Embodied Preparation for Psychedelic Journeys

A 75 MINUTE EXPERIENTIAL SESSION

The term “set and setting” entered the psychedelic lexicon in the late fifties to describe the critical preparation factors of mindset and physical environment that influence the quality and outcomes of psychedelic experiences.

In this session we’ll discuss essential considerations for psychedelic preparation that honors our diverse identities and mental contexts, and acknowledges the societal and cultural factors that shape them. We’ll explore somatic practices to prepare the mind and body for transformational psychedelic journeys, treating the body as a crucial 'setting' in itself.
