ABOUT THE SUMMIT

We gathered live & online, Saturday, November 18th, 2023, for our One-Day Summit to deepen our somatic healing journey around the theme “Healing Trauma with EMDR and Applied Neuroscience.” In this FREE 1-Day Summit we’ll explore the transformative tools of EMDR therapy and the latest insights from applied neuroscience. Join us on this incredible journey of discovery, healing, and growth as we explore the profound connection between trauma and the brain.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy is a comprehensive approach to therapy that integrates elements of psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, interpersonal, experiential, and body-centered therapies to maximize treatment effects, and according to Trauma expert, Bessel van der Kolk, EMDR Therapy and Somatic Therapy are considered the best approaches for the treatment of trauma.

During this immersive online event, you'll have the unique opportunity to learn from world-renowned experts in the fields of EMDR therapy and applied neuroscience. Through a series of engaging presentations and experiential workshops, you'll gain a comprehensive understanding of trauma's impact on the brain and how EMDR therapy, combined with cutting-edge neuroscience principles, can facilitate healing and promote resilience. Whether you're a mental health professional, a trauma survivor, or simply curious about the power of mind-body practices, this summit will provide invaluable insights and strategies to enhance your own healing journey or support your work with others.

Dr. Arielle Schwartz

The Preparation Phase: Somatic Approaches to Resource Development in EMDR Therapy

A 75 MINUTE EXPERIENTIAL SESSION

Dr. Arielle Schwartz will offer creative approaches to resource development during the preparation phase of EMDR therapy. She will offer somatic interventions such as vagal toning practices, guided breath awareness practices, gentle movement regulation strategies, self-havening, and tools to strengthen affect and sensation tolerance. As you explore this resilience informed approach to trauma recovery by will discover tools that enhance the well-being for your clients and buffer you from vicarious trauma. The practices taught in this session come from her book, EMDR Therapy and Somatic Psychology and over 20 years of experience as an EMDR therapist.

Craig Penner

Improve Your Therapy by Tracking Your Clients’ Nervous Systems

A 75-MINUTE EXPERIENTIAL SESSION

I will present the benefits of using somatic tracking of clients’ resilience to provide moment-to-moment data to better inform your decision making in session. We look at how using the Window of Tolerance/Presence as an active lens can facilitate this, and more accurately guide your pacing in sessions. When you notice signs of hyper- and hypo-arousal, and use those moments to intervene, it shifts the work into more of a process-oriented approach. This can make the "non-presenting problems" that can make therapy difficult easier to tease out and work with effectively.

Karee Powers

Rediscovering Spontaneity: EMDR, Complex Trauma, and Play

A 75-MINUTE EXPERIENTIAL SESSION

Play is our first therapeutic language. Even as adults, therapeutic play such as psychodrama empowers clients to create a surplus reality that can increase the ability to feel safe and allowing more space for trauma to be processed safely with EMDR. This workshop will explore the importance of integrating play into the deep trauma work of EMDR from a neurological perspective. It will discuss and define complex trauma and dissociation and the therapeutic needs of those who are experiencing this. This workshop will draw on psychodrama, somatic psychology and play therapy theory to explore ways to enhance safety, connection, and spontaneity for trauma survivors.

Rebecca Kase

Polyvagal Informed EMDR

A 75 MINUTE EXPERIENTIAL SESSION

Unlock the secrets of healing and trauma recovery with Polyvagal Theory and EMDR Therapy. Discover how these cutting-edge models provide a powerful framework for understanding the connection between the autonomic nervous system, vagus nerve, and memory storage. Join this workshop and delve into the relationship between the autonomic nervous system and memory networks. Learn how memory networks are impacted by stress and trauma, and why trauma memories hijack the autonomic nervous system. Examine the key principles of Polyvagal informed EMDR, along with the adaptive information processing model and the preparation hierarchy. Try an experiential exercise to help clients self-soothe and move out of states of overwhelm.
