ABOUT THIS WORKSHOP
FEATURING PETER A. LEVINE, PHD, DEVELOPER OF SOMATIC EXPERIENCING®
During your time together, Dr. Levine will be working live with a demonstration client, giving you the rare opportunity to witness his approach in real time. In a follow-up session, he’ll revisit the recording and walk you through his process step by step—sharing the insights, choices, and somatic nuances that aren’t always visible in the moment. This powerful combination allows you to feel the immediacy of the live work and then deepen your understanding through his thoughtful debrief, creating a more personal and connected learning experience.
“I have come to the conclusion that human beings are born with an innate capacity to triumph over trauma. I believe not only that trauma is curable, but that the healing process can be a catalyst for profound awakening—a portal opening to emotional and genuine spiritual transformation.”
― PETER A. LEVINE, PhD
Conscious, explicit memory is only the tip of the iceberg. Beneath the surface lies a vast reservoir of implicit, emotional, and procedural (body-based) memory that profoundly shapes our behavior, perceptions, and responses to threat. These layers of memory often hold the key to understanding trauma—and to accessing the pathways toward resolution and healing.
Without a grounded understanding of the multidimensional nature of traumatic memory, therapists can easily become mired in uncertainty. Clarifying how memories are encoded, stored, and retrieved in both mind and body is essential for working effectively and ethically with clients, and for reducing confusion or inadvertent harm in the therapeutic process.
In this series, Dr. Levine will illuminate how implicit emotional and procedural memory systems emerge and intertwine in the experience of trauma, and how they can be accessed to support integration and transformation. Through live demonstrations, discussion, and practical guidance, participants will witness how to work skillfully with non-verbal memory traces, guide clients towards discovering their innate self-protective responses, and support them in restoring a sense of agency and connection with the Authentic Self.
This program moves beyond traditional approaches that rely solely on recollection or retelling of events. Instead, it emphasizes a holistic, somatic-based model that recognizes the body as both the repository of trauma and the portal to healing.
In this program, Dr. Levine will:
* Explore the origins and structure of traumatic memory in both the brain and the body.
* Demonstrate somatic interventions with live clients, followed by integrative teaching and Q\&A.
* Provide participants with tools to engage implicit memory systems safely and effectively.
By immersing yourself in this course, you will deepen your understanding of how trauma imprints the body and observe concrete skills for facilitating safe, effective, and lasting healing.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this program, participants will be able to:
Differentiate among forms of memory, including declarative (verbal), episodic, emotional, and procedural (somatic) memory, and describe their relevance to trauma.
Explain practical interventions to access and work with implicit emotional and body-based memories in clinical settings.
Identify which memory systems are engaged in a client’s presentation and which somatic tools will best foster regulation, integration, and empowerment.
Demonstrate ways to support clients in working with difficult or confusing memory experiences in a safe and stabilizing manner.
Integrate bottom-up (somatic) and top-down (cognitive) processes to support the emergence of coherent narratives and the client’s connection to their Authentic Self.
