ABOUT THIS MASTER CLASS
When we experience trauma, the body often enters states of freeze, collapse, or repetitive holding patterns that limit our ability to feel, express, and dream. Yet within each of us lives a creative intelligence—somatic, emotional, and imaginal—that knows how to adapt, reconnect, and find new pathways toward healing.
In this Master Class, we explore how the integration of movement, somatics, and creative expression can support the transition from stuckness to flow. Drawing from the Halprin Life/Art Process®, depth psychology, and contemporary trauma-informed practices, Dr. Rosario Sammartino guides participants through experiential activities designed to awaken movement, expand internal resources, and reconnect with embodied imagination.
Through expressive movement, sensation-based awareness, drawing, and reflective writing, participants learn tools to:
Understand the body’s natural freeze and flow responses
Discover creative pathways out of stuck patterns
Access internal imagery as a resource for healing
Reclaim expression, presence, and possibility
This class is designed for therapists, coaches, educators, somatic practitioners, and individuals interested in trauma-informed creative work. No previous movement or art experience is required—just curiosity, openness, and a space to explore.
Come experience how creativity can unlock movement, restore connection, and support your path from freeze to flow.
ABOUT YOUR TEACHER
Dr. Rosario Sammartino
Dr. Rosario Sammartino is a Somatic Movement Therapist and Educator (MRSMT/E) and an artist, born and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina. With over twenty years of experience, Rosario’s work explores the significance of somatics and expressive arts in addressing trauma and promoting recovery, offering an innovative contribution to the field.
Rosario holds a PhD in Depth Psychology with a focus on somatic studies and an MA in Psychology. She has extensive training in a variety of expressive arts and body-centered therapeutic modalities—including the Creative Connection, Authentic Movement, and Dream Tending—and expertise in multiple psychological orientations such as Gestalt, psychodynamic, person-centered, and depth psychology. These practices have shaped her therapeutic approach
and deepened her understanding of the healing process.
At the core of Rosario’s practice is the Halprin Life/Art Process, an original body of work developed at Tamalpa Institute, an internationally recognized training center for movement-based expressive arts therapy. A former co-director of the institute, she remains deeply involved in shaping its training programs, where she has been teaching for the past fifteen years. Additionally, she is a professor at Lewis & Clark Graduate School and has taught at institutions including the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS), Meridian University, and the University of Hong Kong.
Beyond academia, Rosario maintains a private practice in Portland, Oregon; and presents lectures and workshops worldwide, introducing innovative models of health and embodied creativity to diverse communities in both healing and educational settings.
